This region has remained untouched by common people for years. So, you can get a chance to explore the untouched and unpopulated place for trekking.
Spectacular views of might Himalayan mountain ranges are notable features of this long trek. It is one of the holiest places in India for Lord Shiva lovers. Neelkanth Mahadev Temple has slowly become popular among the devotees of Shiva in India. Many people from different parts of India visit here to take a dip in the holy lake.
This trek is quite exciting with a road full of terrains and steep mountains. The beautiful sight of a gushing glacial water stream gives a playful moment to all the trekkers. Views of mesmerizing meadows with Shepherds grazing their sheep are simply amazing.
The crystal clear blue color of the lake is something for which many men come here. Women are not allowed to visit this lake. Taking a holy bath in this lake does not purify the soul but also purifies your mind.
Best time to do Neelkanth Mahadev Lake Trek

Itinerary
Day 1: Drive Manali to Nain Gahar (Lahaul) trek to Alyas base camp
- Drive distance: 114 km
- Drive duration: 3 to 4 hours
- Trekking distance: 8 km
- Trekking difficulty: Moderate to difficult
- Time taken: 4 to 5 hours
- Water resources: You will find very few water resources on this road. So, it is important to carry enough amount of water.
- Trail Type: Followed by Nain Gahar
Part 1: Today, we will start our journey from Manali early in the morning 8:00am. We have to drive for about 3 hours to reach Nain Gahar. This is a small hamlet with few houses and one shop. You can enjoy the sight of glacial water streams flowing with wide arms. Chandrabhaga River will follow you for a long time on this route.
As you proceed, colorful meadows will start showing their elegance on your trail. On your way to base camp, you can meet some lovely people from Nain Gahar village. Apart from that, you will also see many domestic animals on your road. This route is filled with sharp peaks and huge mountain ranges. After reaching Nain Gahar.
Part 2: We will start our trekking trail to Base camp which takes around 3 to 4 hours. By noon, we will reach Base Camp on walking. After lunch, we will spend some hours with group members discussing the things to do on the trekking trail. We will enjoy our stay at Base Camp and capture photos of enchanting nature. The night will be spent in tents with some exciting things such as a bonfire and lovely dinner and spending time in natural habitat.
Day 2: Trek to Neel Kanth Mahadev Lake and back to Alyas base camp

- Water resources: You will find many streams on this road.
- Trail Type: Himalayan trail with rocky path
Like the previous day, we will start our trek from Base Camp. So, we will have a light breakfast and start our trek. You have to face a tough journey by walking on several stones and unlevelled paths. Reaching the blue-throated lake will take much of your time as well as energy.
The whole route from Base Camp to Neelkanth Mahadev Lake Trek is amazing with alluring landscapes and mighty peaks namely Neelkanth and Gangstang Peaks. Now, you will meet one of the most exciting parts of your trail which is crossing a water stream. You will come across a large river and steep ridges on this route.
After crossing water streams and rivers, you will have to walk on numerous stones that come along your route. Melting glaciers are found in several places while going on the Neelkanth Mahadev Lake trek. After trekking for about 2km, we will land at the first religious after a short climb. Now, you will see a beautiful blue lake for which you were waiting for a long time.
After reaching Neelkanth Lake, you can explore the surroundings and take a holy bath in this lake. You can take amazing photos of the alluring surroundings of this lake and spend some time there to take a plunge in the sereneness of the region and eat our lunch.
After lunch, we will again start our journey back to Base Camp. We will reach Base Camp before dark and spend the full night in our tents. We will talk about the beautiful Neelkanth Mahadev Lake trek and spend a beautiful night with stars, moon, and surreal nature.
Day 3: Trek back to Nain Gahar and drive to Manali

- Time taken for trek: 5 hours
- Water resources: You will find numerous streams on this road.
- Trail Type: same as day 1
Part 1: We know today is the last day of our trek. Memories of Neelkanth Mahadev Lake Trek will never fade from our minds and soul. Taking all these memories in our hearts, we will begin our return journey from Base Camp to Nain Gahar in the same way that we did past 2 days. After breakfast, we will start our journey from Base Camp and reach Nain Gahar in 3 to 4 hours.
Part 2: We will stop at Nain Gahar for lunch and start our trail again after lunch. Following the same route of day 1, we will drive from Nain Gahar to Manali and reach Manali by night. From Manali, we will go on separate ways as decided before the trek.

Necessary Items for trekkers
- Backpack (50 to 60 liters) A strongly built backpack with good support is compulsory for a trek. (Rain cover is important)
- Sturdy Trekking Shoes The shoes should be strong enough with good support. The people ask if sports shoes would be comfortable but it is good to bring the right trekking shoes.
- The Clothes You Should Bring On a Trek Avoid keeping extra clothes because it only makes you backpack heavy.
- Trek Pants – The jeans are never suitable for a trek so you need at least 2-3 trek pants for treks carry more for longer treks.
- Jacket – Jackets are very important to carry on a trek it protects you against the chilly weather. So carry 2 jackets on a week long trek.
- Layers of warm Clothing Carry warm woolen layers or fleece. Carry more layers during winter season (at least 2 to 3) and less during summer.
- Thermals – The Temperature decreases at night so you might be need thermals for Night.
- T- Shirts – Bring those t shirts which dry fast.
- Poncho –They are needed if you are trekking on a Rainy day to keep you dry.
